Workouts, you either love them or despise them. I happen to love workouts, especially when I get to choose my own. When I'm in the middle of cross country season, my favorite workout is great for your mind and body. I start out with a half mile or mile warm-up. After I do some static and dynamic stretching (see video), I line up at the starting line and prepare myself for the impending pain of mile repeats. Yep, that's right! I have four mile repeats ahead of me at tempo pace (if this term is new to you, see this site: http://www.runnersworld.com/start-running/a-guide-to-common-running-terms). After suffering (it's a good suffering) through my four mile repeats I make sure to stretch and roll out my legs with a foam roller. This workout is my favorite because it teaches your mind to be mentally tough and gets you used to dealing with pain. This workout is great to do around two weeks before a race and will definitely give you an edge over your competition who's just been doing 400-repeats!
